I was mystery reader for Hannah's class! I read the "Tears for the Butterfly" book that I illustrated and also "Bartleby the Brave." I loved hearing the kids' reactions.... What does grief mean? What happened to the rainbow butterfly? Why is Bartleby Brave? Your watercolors are smart. NOw they have the books in their classroom to enjoy!

Reviews

Touched my Heart: This story absolutely touched my heart. It also taught me something new. Such an endearing story that teaches about the end of life in such a sweet, sweet way. Also, I had no idea that butterflies like tears. Super interesting factoid!!! The illustrator did such simple, beautiful work.... It's not overly visually stimulating; each image is so delicate and beautiful. You could frame them and put them on your wall. I LOVE THIS BOOK!

The Eyes: One of my favorite books because it shows empathy and learning to move forward. The artwork (animals' eyes) represent how feelings change and allow characters to embrace a hopeful future.

Delicately Teaches About Loss: "Tears for the Butterfly" is a beautifully illustrated book that delicately teaches children about death and loss. Throughout the story, the butterfly kindly tends to other animals in the forest as they deal with different types of losses. Some as simple as not being able to find their friends to the death of a loved one. The butterfly shows kindness and supports each animal by listening to their feelings and comforting them with positive words. Children will learn that when we support one another during the difficult times, they will feel at peace with what is causing them to feel sad or hurt. My children enjoyed the artwork and were very touched by the story. I recommend this book to parents. The storyline will help children deal with the loss of a pet, a loved one, or even the loss of a friendship. Excellent book! - School Psychologist from Think Ahead Kids

Touching Story: "Tears for the Butterfly" is a touching story about a little butterfly who helps all those around her. She tells to be grateful, to listen for the soft sound, and to be happy for a friend. I love this book because there is a science fact and beautiful artwork. Mostly, I like how the butterfly's actions and words can change the environment she lives in. - Child, age 10

I LOVE it!!! Death is such a hard thing to talk about and for kiddos to understand. I think you did it in such a beautiful and kid friendly way that kiddos will totally be able to understand and relate to! And the thing I loved most in this book, is that when you give love, you get love back! I love how your children's books have such great, positive life lessons in them! They set such good examples for kids and adults to live by! The science fact is so cool, too! I didn't know that! Also, you find the BEST illustrators... the watercolor pictures are so beautiful!! You totally nailed it again!! - Michelle

What a lovely book with such a positive message. - Nancy

It has such a powerful message and teaches a science concept as well. Beautiful story! - Joy

Love this book! Pay attention to the eyes of the animals as you read. :) - Jane

I read your book three times already. It touched my heart, so sweet. Again you used your wonderful
writing talent and your kind heart in teaching children life lessons. - Barb

I got all weepy at the end. But in a good way! - Heather
