Synopsis

Brianna Wylder: When this 17-year-old Chicago artist is faced with the death of her parents, she must leave the world she knows to live with extended family in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Searching for a new beginning in a world so different from her own, she learns to stand on her own, to love and be loved, and to tap into the power and magic of nature and herself through her drawings. Finding herself in a battle between the comfort of the known and the daring adventure of the new, the question is which man will she choose? Who will become hers?

Ben Davis: Young Chicago police officer and good old boy next door, Ben comforts Brianna in her tragedy and becomes a much needed friend (and potentially more) as she adjusts to her new reality. Brianna finds comfort in him, but he's in Chicago and she's not. Will she still be his after the summer? Will he fight for her if he must?

Matt Brennan: Ranch hand and bull rider from an abusive, broken childhood, Matt ran away at 12 and found a new life in the west. Fascinated by his power and deep eyes, Brianna finds herself unable to stay away. Although he tries to push her away, it propels her to show him an unexpected fire that is hard for him to resist. Will she fall for this brooding desperado? Will he put his prejudice aboud "city girls" aside to give her a chance?

When the two men meet, Brianna has a decision to make and a path to choose for her future. Ben? Matt? Chicago? New Mexico? Can she find the strength to do what is in her heart?

More information
Deep in the heart of romantic and life indecision, we meet 17-year-old Brianna Wylder, a tremendously gifted artist whose talent and perspective blossom in the mountains of New Mexico. A native of Chicago, she must live with her new guardians in Santa Fe until she turns 18. How this comes to be and what comes next is what In Death We Part is all about.

Ripped from her urban hometown of Chicago, where she leaves a budding romance (Ben Davis: young police officer with a boy-next-door smile), and thrown into the breathtaking landscape of Santa Fe, where she collides with a new love interest (Matt Brennan: moody, self-isolated bull rider/ranch hand with darkness and smoldering eyes), Brianna's nearly photographic visual memory enables her to capture her changing world in her art as she comes to grips with her new reality created by the tragic deaths of her parents.

Readers will experience the luscious heat of pulse-racing romance and danger entwined with Brianna's journey to understand her life and her place in it. The author's prose, which will enchant readers until the last page, takes inpsiration from characters she has lived with, grown up with, and loved for many years. Through the romance and visual poetry she creates with her words, Hyla plunges readers into Brianna's life and dreams as she deals with the loss and finds herself.

Made to choose between Ben Davis (symbolic of Chicago and its comforting, urban charm) and Matt Brennan (symbolic of New Mexico's mystique and raw power), Brianna finds herslef in an exquisite purgatory that somewhat fades the strongest dye that has stained her spirit: her parents' deaths.

Reviews

One of the Best Ever: This book was outstanding. Could not put it down. Can't wait for the sequel. Held my interest. So glad I got it for my Kindle.

Great Start for a New Author! Couldn't put it down. Appropriate for audiences 14+. Quite descriptive of the plot locales. So glad that a sequel will be coming.

Wonderful Book, Full of Surprises: Wonderful book, well-written, perfect length, full of surprises, and definitely kep my interest page after page. I am completely impress with the author and will be looking for more written by her!!

Classic First Love Story: An impassioned story of first love and loss, In Death We Part holds the reader spellbound until the end. I want to see Matt Brennan on the big screen!

Dizzying Steamy Parts: This is an amazing book. I seriously couldn't put it down, and the steamy parts made me dizzy. The descriptions of New Mexico make me want to go there NOW to see all those beautiful places.

Worth the Read: This book makes a point of picking yourself up and starting over when the worse happens, twice. There were also some wonderful descriptions of New Mexico foothills. With two heroes, you are left feeling sorry for the odd man out... at least for a while.

Character Evolution: It's a wonderful story, and the author has managed to create feeling by turning us into the witness for Brianna's evolution. Loved it.

Cried so Hard: This is a wonderful story, and so tragic that I cried so hard I threw up. So cathartic, and I can't wait for more.

Bawling my Eyes Out: I finished the book this afternoon, and it was so so so good! I couldn't put it down! I was totally bawling my eyes out on my couch at the end, and my heart literally broke! I can't stop thinking about it, and I can't wait to read the next one and see what happens! Loved all the Native American culture in the book, too! It was so interesting to read about, and I love how you wove that into the book!

it was amazing

I am trying to find the words to describe how delightful I found this novel to be without spoiling anything that’s not already on the Goodreads description for this book. I absolutely loved it so much. There are so many components of this book that just work so well together and flow and create this magnificent creation that is In Death We Part. It flows well, has a good plot, kept me interested and I found it difficult to put it down at times. I could have easily read it in one sitting if I were given the chance. Let me also preface this review and say that it should definitely be for mature readers.
I went into this novel with little expectations of a good story, and I got a lot more than what I have expected interesting characters with wonderful plotline. That's a best thing about this book. This book is what it says on the tin... or rather, cover. I really enjoyed the story and flew through it in two sittings. I desperately wanted to know the outcome of this relationship.
The writing style is the the best part of this book according to me. It was an original idea and, I found myself rereading parts aloud because I had to hear them being said. It was hilarious and I will most definitely watch out for Victoria Hyla’s other books because if they’re as good as In Death We Part then I have found a new favorite author.
Can't wait to read the next part.
Let me know if you’ve read this book because I want to fangirl about its awesomeness with you!
    Highly Recommended!

Red Headed Book Lover (excerpt): ...I had such high expectations for the book, especially when I read the description, so you can imagine my surprise as well as my delight when I found that my expectations were exceeded! Yes, book lovers, the phenomenal author Victoria J. Hyla managed to impress me more than I could ever have imagined. One of my favorites: I normally get scared when I see thick books. This story was a long one but engaging from Page 1. Brianna’s life changes 180 when she loses all she has—both her parents. That leaves her empty and alone. Loved the description of her reaction after finding out her parents are dead. The author did a great job in making me feel what the characters are feeling and sensing. Loved it! One of my favorite novels so far.
