Reviews

Adorable: This adorable book was sent to me by the author to share on my public access television program (that also airs on YouTube and Facebook) called "TeaFairy and Friends StoryTime Adventures" filmed on Greenbelt Access Television. I have had the honor of sharing three of Victoria's books! This was the first one I received. I have heard wonderful reviews from my audience members and I absolutely ADORE this book. The artwork has a feathery softness to it and tells the tale perfectly through visual storytelling. The story itself is written in such a sweet poetic way and teaches important lessons about getting along, being brace, and being kind--important lessons for little people to learn. I love that the author identifies so many different kinds of birds. On top of learning important value lessons, the author and illustrator teach us about different kinds of birds and how to identify them. This would be a great book for anyone who has an aspiring birder in their lives!!! This author and illustrator work soooooooo well together!!!

Enjoyable: My nephews and nieces enjoyed this book very much! - Erick

Thank you for your contribution: I was so fortunate to gain the attention of actor David Newell who was the Speedy Delivery man Mr. McFeely on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. He reviewed “Bartleby the Brave” and was so complimentary: “Thanks for your contribution to children’s literature. I am sure you are working on other ideas for other books. Maybe there could be a series of Bartleby stories. If so, I look forward to Bartleby’s next lesson in kindness.” Click here for the full review.

Great Book Teaching Kindness and Bravery: “Bartleby the Brave” is an exceptionally illustrated book with an important storyline about being kind and brave. The birds used in the illustrations are creatively penciled with unique markings that bring movement to each page. The main character of the story, Bartleby, is described as a kind bird who encounters two difficult brids that take a special spot in a tree from him. Bartleby handles this with caution and care. He chooses not to react negatively and later finds himself in a unique situation. While reading “Bartleby the Brave,” children and parents will find themselves talking about positive ways to handle situations with difficult people. My children freely opened up about ways they would handle Bartleby’s encounter with the two birds. A great book that teaches kindness and bravery. I highly recommend this book to parents and educators. - School Psychologist from Think Ahead Kids

Great story for 5-10 year olds: The artwork is awesome. The pages are full of the story images. I hope this artist illustrates more books. - Lorraine

Kids Love It: “Bartleby the Brave” is a good book about a little bird who stands up to bullies who try to take his seat. He goes

through the feelings of worry and fear but handles them with bravery at the same time. The pictures look hand drawn and nicely done. I can tell the season is fall an it is cold. I love your book. - Child, age 10

Great for PreK: My PreK students loved Bartleby! We read it this week. We had some really great discussions about how Bartleby showed kindness to others. - Karen Kline

Incredible: The story is incredible, and I am so happy to share it with my students. Fantastic author! - Karen

Fun to Share: It was very fun to share this with [my granddaughter]! She enjoyed the story (and we talked about Bartleby’s decision to help Carl) and she was pointing out lots of things in the pictures! - Deb

Good: Good book worth buying - Marion

A 20+ Year Teacher Loves this Book! Artist Ronald B. Botts Jr. and writer Victoria Hyla Maldonado have created the delightful story ofBartleby the Brave.I bought and read this book after following Ronald on Instagram. He is a kind, generous, and talented artist. What I love and think many yound readers will love is how the story unfolds. Parents and teachers will  love the message (and I will leave it at that so as not to spoil your reading or imposing what I inferred upon you). The author does something that is very difficult - tells a beautiful story using rhyme! I think this story will be a favorite of young humans as they discover the rhyming pattern and can eventually fill in the rhyming words as their parents and teachers read aloud. I think PK, kinder, and first-grade teachers will love to use it as a read-aloud, and teachers of intermediate grades will enjoy using it as an example of alliteration, dipped deeply and dived.Bird lovers and those who enjoy learning about and watching birds will appreciate the varioes types of birds who appear in the story (blue jays, cardinals, nuthatch, martin, and more!).

I love that the author identifies so many different kinds of birds.  - Tanya Nordberg

Sweet Children’s Book! What a sweet book with a great message. I love birds so much, and I am trying to pass this on to my grandkids.
